ERA OF SOLITUDE
Walter chose to self-isolate in 2018, two years before the international lockdown, resulting in the striking body of work, “Era of Solitude” The series reflects a world moving towards a new reality. For this reason, the paintings transport us to the cosmos and nature, which served as sources of inspiration for Walter as he isolated himself in his studio, surrounded by gardens and nature. The work is also a result of his daily meditation practices connecting him with his inner ethereal light during this long period of disruption and frenzy.
Walter filters and lightens, and by using multiple layers he captures the traces of long-gone, lively memories of nature that seem to be suspended in the canvas. It is not by chance that some of his images resemble Japanese ink paintings or drawings, sumi-e, where a few essential strokes or just a simple landscape are the only elements within an empty, dimensionless space.
